TDIF: NFL’s First Playoff Game

Chicago Bears, TCIPF Staff, This Day in NFL History

On this date in football eighty years ago, the NFL’s first ever playoff game was held between the Chicago Bears and Portsmouth Spartans.  Played indoors due to a major snowstorm, the game was also regarded as the first ever major indoor football game.  Defensively, both teams remained dominant for three quarters until the Bears added a touchdown as well as a safety in the fourth quarter, defeating the Spartans, 9-0.

Here’s a look back at that 1932 indoor playoff game, as originally presented on “NFL Films Presents.”
