TDIF: George Blanda Tosses Seven Touchdowns in One Game

Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, TCIPF Staff, This Day in NFL History

On this date in football – Nov. 19, 1961 – Houston Oilers’ George Blanda passed for 418 yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 49-13 victory over the New York Titans. The multifaceted Hall of Fame quarterback also tacked on seven extra points to go along with his touchdown passes. Nicknamed “The Grand Old Man”, because of his twenty-six seasons in the NFL – the most in history – Blanda’s feat comes a day after Houston’s current quarterback Matt Schaub’s five-touchdown performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend.

Here’s a look back at George Blanda and the explosive offense of the 1960 Houston Oilers from their days in the AFL on “Full Color Football.”
