Playbook Week 5 Hits and Misses

Fantasy Tips, Inside the Game, Nick Condit

It’s time to assess the Playbook War Room’s fantasy predictions from Week 5.

Victor Cruz, Giants: The Playbook guys liked what they had seen from Cruz and thought he would be able to make plays down the field against Seattle. Cruz ended up setting a career high in receiving yards with 161 on eight catches, including a circus grab that went 68 yards for a touchdown.

Pierre Garcon (AP)

Pierre Garcon, Colts: The War Room continued to back Garcon last week after an outburst from the wideout a week prior. The guys liked the chemistry between he and Curtis Painter and thought the Colts offense would be successful against Kansas City. Garcon caught two touchdown receptions for the second straight week and racked up 125 yards receiving.

Ryan Mathews, Chargers: Despite not scoring a touchdown, Mathews had great success on the ground against Denver. Playbook thought that San Diego would focus on the running game and feed Mathews the rock. He ran the ball 24 times for 125 yards, good for a 5.2 yards-per-carry average.

Cedric Benson (AP)

Cedric Benson, Bengals: Cincinnati had seemed committed to the run going into last week’s matchup against Jacksonville. The Playbook guys thought that would continue. But the Bengals’ commitment to the run wasn’t the issue, the execution was. Benson ran the ball 24 times for just 53 total yards.
