On this day in 1942, the New York Giants failed to record a single first down but still defeated Washington, 14-7. The Giants managed just 51 yards of total offense, most of which came on Tuffy Leemans’ only pass of the game that went 50 yards for a touchdown. New York ran the ball 26 times for a total of 1 yard but scored the decisive touchdown on defense, when Neal Adams made a game-winning 66-yard interception return. It was Sammy Baugh and the Redskins’ only loss of the ’42 season, in which they won the NFL Title.
