Expectations run how we go through life. You expect a waiter to seat you at a restaurant. You expect the sun to rise in the morning. You expect presents on your birthday.

One thing that you definitely don’t expect, however, is a bus coming towards the line of scrimmage.

On “A Football Life” this week, discover Jerome Bettis’s story and how he paved the way for big running backs to be a mainstay in an NFL offense. For 13 Seasons, Jerome Bettis powered through defenders on his way to a Hall of Fame career, proving to all the naysayers that even a big guy can dominate at the running back position. Possessing uncanny quickness for a man of his size, Bettis made his name with the Steelers, embodying their reputation as a tough player who won’t back down from a fight. Rumbling downfield, Bettis was a force that proved all the doubters about his longevity in the league wrong.

Despite his on the field success, the road was not always the smoothest for Bettis during his childhood. Hailing from Detroit, Bettis grew up in a tough neighborhood, in the midst of rough lifestyle. Violence and drugs prevailed on the street, drafting Bettis into a world that often doesn’t lead towards a good life. Football was his outlet, giving him a space to channel that survival instinct and create the image that is “The Bus.”

Jerome Bettis’s steely determination has kept his engine going throughout the toughest of odds, parking this bus into a spot in Canton. For a bus tour of his life, tune in tonight and watch”Jerome Bettis: A Football Life“, Friday October 2nd at 9PM/ET on NFL Network.
