This Wednesday in Indianapolis, the 2013 edition of the NFL Scouting Combine begins. Like every part of professional football the player evaluation process has undergone an almost immeasurable evolution since the league was formed. Here’s a look back at an NFL Films Presents feature that recapped the history of scouting, as seen in 1998 when this piece first aired. Notice how the ballroom drafts of the ’80s and ’90s hardly resemble this century’s prime time events, beware old-time scout Fido Murphy, and look out for a young Peyton Manning.
