Editor’s Note: NFL Films Senior Producer John Weiss works on the show “NFL Turning Point.” Here’s his preview on Wednesday’s episode, which premieres at 10 PM / ET on NBC Sports Network.
This week on NFL Turning Point, the NFL’s leading passer, Peyton Manning is mic’d up in the Broncos’ win over Carolina. After sitting out last year with a neck injury, Manning is making a strong bid not only to be the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, but also the league MVP. And while he still may not be at full strength physically, he is at the top of his game mentally. Turning Point will examine the nuances of Manning’s game that still make him a master of the position.
Also in the show, the resurgent Saints hold off the unbeaten Falcons. After an 0-4 start, New Orleans has now won four of its past five. And Turning Point will take a look at how the much-maligned Saints defense has helped the team salvage its season, and helped preserve Sunday’s crucial win over Atlanta.
Plus, the Cowboys and Eagles meet in a desperation game between two 3-5 teams. We break down how the Eagles attempted to protect Michael Vick early in the game, only to have him leave with an injury. Philadelphia then built a second half lead behind rookie quarterback Nick Foles. But a Cowboys team that has struggled to finish games used a huge Turning Point to jumpstart a comeback, and possibly save their season.
Finally, Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison join Dan Patrick to preview Sunday night’s showdown between the Ravens and Steelers.
