EDITOR’S NOTE: Intern Domenick Candelieri is assigned to TCIPF and Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” this season. Last Wednesday, he witnessed “Inside the NFL” through a whole different perspective. Here is Dom’s take on his experience.
Last Wednesday, I had a first-glance, behind-the-scenes look at the filming of “Inside the NFL”. As an intern producer for the show, I experienced what it was like to be in the shoes of a producer, writer, on-air talent, stage and graphics crew member. My first task was attending the producers meeting, where they discussed the outline of the show and which topics to bring up during certain segments. It was very interesting how the rundown of the show was set up, such as placing the Baltimore Ravens versus New England Patriots highlight segment at the last block in order to end the show with a more profound emotional effect on the audience.
After the meeting, I made my way to the control room. It was amazing how everyone worked in unison, from the producers communicating with each cameraman on certain shots to the writers telling the operator of the teleprompter what to write. Then, it was off to the studio to see the floor crew as well as the talent. The floor crew quickly helped build the sets, while the talent – James Brown, Phil Simms, Cris Collinsworth and special guest Kris Jenkins – looked over their scripts and read the teleprompter. Being an aspiring journalist, I was very observant on each of the talent’s stage presence, including their body language, interview techniques and ability to present opinions.
Witnessing the rapid pace at which all of the “Inside the NFL” workers performed their difficult tasks, gave me a great appreciation for their professionalism and adversity during critical situations. Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith fought through his own adversity last week against the New England Patriots, having the best game of his career on the worst night of his life. Here’s a look back at those highlights in NFL Films’ style from the show, “Inside the NFL”.
Be sure to check out new episodes of “Inside the NFL” every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT only on Showtime.
