TDIF: Happy Birthday, Mike Shanahan

Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, Sound FX, TCIPF Staff, This Day in NFL History, Washington Redskins

Today, Washington Redskins’ head coach Mike Shanahan celebrates his 60th birthday.  A quarterback at Eastern Illinois University, Shanahan was nearly killed during a practice in the spring of 1973 after a vicious hit ruptured one of his kidneys, causing his heart to stop for thirty seconds.  After suffering this career ending injury, Shanahan entered coaching, eventually making it to the NFL.   He won a Super Bowl ring in 1994 as the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, but Shanahan’s best known championships were his back-to-back Super Bowl victories in 1997 and 1998 as the Broncos head coach.

Here’s a look back at Mike Shanahan wired for sound against the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, as originally presented on Sound FX.
