This Day in Football: Happy Birthday, Keyshawn Johnson

Former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was born on July 22 in 1972. Selected No. 1 in the 1996 draft by the New York Jets, Johnson was only the 2nd receiver in NFL history to be selected with the first overall pick. He played for the Jets, Buccaneers, Cowboys and Panthers in his 11-year career and racked up 10,571 career receiving yards and 64 career receiving TDs. He’s also tied at No. 23 all-time with yesterday’s birthday boy, Henry Ellard, for career receptions with 814.

Throughout his career, Johnson was one of the NFL’s premiere trash talkers. It’s no wonder after his retirement in 2007 that he turned to broadcasting, joining ESPN’s NFL Sunday Countdown in 2007. To celebrate his birthday, we look back a classic 2002 “Soundtracks” piece from his days with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
