This Date In Football: Happy Birthday, Roy Green

Arizona Cardinals, Tales from the Vault, TCIPF Staff, This Day in NFL History

Roy Green was a defensive back in college and in 1981 played cornerback and wide receiver, while also returning kicks for the Cardinals.  In 1981, he had three different games with both an interception and reception (Wk 3 vs Redskins, Wk 11 vs Bills, Wk 14 vs Saints). In 1982 he converted to wide receiver, full-time.  He developed into one of the NFC’s best, tallying over 1500 receiving yards in 1984.  But perhaps his most remarkable accomplishment was that Week 3 game in 1979, where he caught 4 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown to go along with his interception.  Here’s a look back at Green as we send him happy birthday wishes on this date in football – June 30, 2012 – his 55th birthday.
