Happy Birthday, Jim Burt

New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Tales from the Vault, TCIPF Staff, This Day in NFL History

On this date in football, June 7, 2012, 2-time Super Bowl champion defensive lineman Jim Burt turns 53 years old.  In 1981 Burt was an undrafted Miami Hurricane.  He signed with the New York Giants and, at nose tackle, became an anchor of the dominant 3-4 defense that led the Giants to their first championship in three decades.  Later Burt joined the San Francisco 49ers, collecting his second Super Bowl ring in 1989, before retiring from the NFL two years later.  Here’s a look back at Burt’s rise from unheralded rookie to world champion, as originally presented in 1987 on This is the NFL.
