The Irish of NFL Films

Paul Camarata

According to this Alumni Tracker, there are 30 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the NFL.  Playing, that is.

Six more Golden Domers work in pro football as staff Producers here at NFL Films, and recently, we’ve benefitted from the talents of 2 unique Irish alumni who have come from playing the game to helping us cover it.

Throughout the 2011 NFL season, Darrell Campbell ’02 has worked alongside Ron Jaworski, Merrill Hoge and executive producer Greg Cosell as a production assistant on the weekly NFL Films/ESPN series NFL MATCHUP.  At Notre Dame Campbell started 32 games at defensive tackle, and since graduating, he’s spent time with the Bears, Browns, Bucs, Ravens, AFL’s Orlando Predators, and is presently a member of the Arena League’s Philadelphia Soul.

This season Campbell used his inside knowledge of the game to produce segments for the weekly MATCHUP  series, which analyzes strategies and performances through the same “eye-in- the-sky” game tape that NFL coaches and players use.

While Campbell has worked with us since August, Chinedum Ndukwe ’07 – formerly of the Bengals and Raiders — made his Films debut just this week when he visited 1 NFL Plaza to narrate our forthcoming documentary, Hey Rookie! Welcome to the NFL. The one-hour special that chronicles the rookie seasons of Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, AJ Green, Patrick Peterson and Marcel Dareus marks Ndukwe’s first voice-over work for Films, a gig he earned by submitting a demo that caught the ear of our producers

Hear Chinedum in the premiere of Hey Rookie, Monday January 30th at 11pm/ET on ESPN2. And to see Darrell’s latest work, check out the Championship Game episode of NFL MATCHUP, this Sunday, January 22nd on ESPN (3am and 7:30am) and on ESPN2 (9am).
