On this day in 1969, Joe Namath made good on his guarantee to defeat the mighty Baltimore Colts and win Super Bowl III for the New York Jets.

“Broadway Joe” was named MVP, but he credited his offensive line and the defense – which intercepted the Colts four times – with the victory.
