Films Encore: Cam Newton’s Rushing Record
by TCIPF Staff
Well Cam Newton has been nothing short of spectacular this season and he now holds another record – most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in one season – with 13, and Newton still has four games left to play.
So who did Newton pass in the record books?
Well the former record-holder’s mark stood for 35 years until Newton came along.
He scored 12 times in a 14-game season, and led his team to the AFC Championship Game.
He scored 23 rushing touchdowns in his first five seasons.
In 1978, his team set the record for most rushing yards by a team in a single season with 3,165.
He was the only quarterback to score against the 1985 Bears in the postseason.
Eventually he accumulated 26,886 passing yards and 182 passing touchdowns in his 16-year career.
Answer: New England fan-favorite Steve Grogan, 5th round pick of the 1975 NFL Draft out of Kansas State.
I was a Cam Newton doubter before the season, but now I’m a believer and I find myself watching Panthers games just to watch him play. It’s a shame he’s not winning that many games, then maybe he’d get as much attention as Teblow.
He and Tebow are both awesome but why would anyone ever hate Tebow dudes like on of the most humble guys in the nfl geez… Melissa
We don’t hate Tim Tebow. I just hate that the media is ALWAYS talking about him!
if cam newton had denvers defense no-one would talk about tebow
Wow Grogan used to have some speed.
I like your style, Melissa.
i was a cam doubter as well. If their D gets stronger, watch out!
It’s not Cam’s fault that the Panthers aren’t winning games. It’s the D. Hard to win when you are putting up 34 points but your D is giving up 35. YES WE CAM!!!!!
[...] wild-card picture, the improving Panthers are the team nobody wants to play right now. Cam Newton has broken a 35-year-old record set by Steve Grogan for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and will continue a late push for Rookie of the Year [...]
